Dover Corporation, a diversified global manufacturer of specialized equipment, industrial components, and software solutions, closed out the third quarter of 2026 with strong top- and bottom-line momentum. Examining the income statement in Dover's latest 10-Q filing reveals how operational discipline and exposure to high-growth secular themes helped the industrial bellwether navigate a mixed broader manufacturing environment. Net earnings climbed 10.4% year-over-year to $333.3 million, supporting a 12.8% jump in diluted earnings per share to $2.47.
Dover generated $2.23 billion in quarterly revenue, an increase of 7.5% compared to the prior-year period, driven by solid organic volumes and strategic pricing.
The flow reflects gross profit of $903.4 million at a 40.4% gross margin. Selling, general, and administrative expenses rose at a more modest 6.1% pace to $484.2 million, allowing operating earnings to expand 11.1% to $419.2 million. The flow also captures $17.7 million in unallocated cost of revenue, which primarily represents corporate purchase accounting amortization and restructuring items that are managed centrally rather than absorbed by individual business lines.
Dover operates through five reportable divisions, spanning fluid handling, industrial marking, vehicle maintenance, fueling, and refrigeration. Performance among them highlighted notable shifts in customer demand:
Cash generation remained dependable throughout the period. Dover generated $865.9 million in operating cash flow over the first nine months of the year, translating to $702.9 million in free cash flow (operating cash flow less capital expenditures of $163.0 million). Dover deployed that capital aggressively into share repurchases, repurchasing approximately 1.68 million shares for $335 million during the third quarter alone. With net debt of $1.57 billion and a conservative net debt-to-net capitalization ratio of 17.1%, balance sheet flexibility remains high.
Across the diversified multi-industry peer group—including rivals like Illinois Tool Works, Fortive, and Ingersoll Rand—industrial conglomerates are balancing softer traditional machinery cycles against secular expansion in clean energy, digitalization, and thermal management. Dover's third-quarter results demonstrate that its targeted pivot toward energy transition hardware, biopharma single-use pump technology, and advanced cooling infrastructure continues to provide meaningful insulation against general macroeconomic cross-currents.
